The Plaza / Lucas Seré Paltzer and Sebastián Andrés Podestá (Buenos Aires) for Concéntrico 04

Concéntrico is an International Architecture and Design Festival that invites reflection on the city of Logroño (Spain) by revitalizing undervalued public spaces. Its latest edition, Concéntrico 04, takes place between April 27 and May 1, 2018, in the historic center of Logroño. The festival invites visitors to explore the city through installations, exhibitions, meetings, activities, and performances that connect venues, plazas, streets, courtyards, and hidden spaces that typically go unnoticed in daily life. Lucas Seré Paltzer and Sebastián Andrés Podestá explore the connection between space and people through reflection at Plaza de San Bartolomé.

Description by the team. Lucas Seré Paltzer and Sebastián Andrés Podestá, with La Plaza, are the winners of the competition organized by Concéntrico 04 to design the intervention for Plaza de San Bartolomé. Trained in architecture, they studied together at the University of Buenos Aires. They later followed different paths, with Sebastián focusing on architecture and teaching, and Lucas on art and photography. Since 2014, they have been working together, embarking on journeys and experiences that have allowed them to connect with people and lifestyles, witnessing the conditions and realities of the contemporary human experience. Their collaborative work seeks to address these human and social issues within the fields of architecture and art.

At Plaza de San Bartolomé, a simple intervention articulates the existing space and invites contemplation and reflection. By removing the plaza's benches, two resting areas are placed at opposite ends: two heritage stones connected by a reflecting pool distill the act of sitting, bringing it back to its essence. This interplay of elements invites people to stay, observe, and connect with their surroundings and with one another. The intervention suggests rather than dictates, guiding each visitor to different reflections: the dissolution of boundaries; the historical water channels, the past, and origins; the preservation of urban historic heritage; and human connection. By wetting our feet, we connect with others and become equals: all footprints dry on the stone floor.

Location: Plaza de San Bartolomé, Calle San Bartolomé.
