On November 2 at 7:00 PM, Rem Koolhaas, founding partner of OMA and chief expert at the CAFA Visual Art Advanced Innovation Center, will launch his latest book, Elements of Architecture, and host a book signing at the Central Academy of Fine Arts (CAFA).
Organized as part of the Architectural Forum of the International Art Education Congress hosted by the Central Academy of Fine Arts, the event will be academically moderated by Professor Zhu Pei, Dean of the CAFA School of Architecture.
This marks Koolhaas's first book launch in mainland China. The event is co-organized by the Central Academy of Fine Arts, TASCHEN, OMA, the Harvard Graduate School of Design, and Paragon Book Gallery.
During the launch, Koolhaas will engage in a discussion with Mohsen Mostafavi, Dean and Professor at the Harvard Graduate School of Design; Xu Bing, world-renowned artist and CAFA professor; and Stephan Petermann, OMA member and co-author of the book. This will be followed by a book signing at the CAFA Art Museum.
Elements of Architecture focuses on the fragments of the rich and complex architectural collage. Looking at elements such as windows, facades, balconies, corridors, fireplaces, stairs, escalators, and elevators, it seeks to excavate the micro-narratives of architectural detail. The result is not a single history, but a web of origins, differences, similarities, influences, and evolutions in architecture, shaped by technological advances, climatic adaptation, political calculations, economic contexts, regulatory requirements, and opportunities within the new digital environment.
Special thanks: Furniture for this event is sponsored by Herman Miller.
