In Mexico, INFONAVIT's Urban Redensification project aims to identify strategies to curb urban sprawl across various Mexican cities. This initiative seeks to reconfigure the urban fabric by repurposing underutilized land and abandoned housing, aiming to create compact, efficient cities that offer a better quality of life for their residents.
Currently, social housing policies in Mexico aim to promote vertical housing. The challenge lies in creating dignified, affordable vertical housing schemes that Mexican families can embrace.
Through this initiative, 32 mixed-use vertical housing proposals were developed across 13 Mexican states, promoting property value and more efficient land use within densification processes. The invited architecture firms were as follows:
