Concéntrico is an International Architecture and Design Festival that proposes to reflect on the city of Logroño (Spain) through the revitalization of undervalued public spaces. Its latest edition, Concéntrico 04, takes place between April 27 and May 1, 2018, in the Historic Center of Logroño. The festival invites visitors to explore the city through installations, exhibitions, meetings, activities, and performances that connect the venues, plazas, streets, courtyards, and hidden spaces that usually go unnoticed in daily life. Jorge Penadés creates "Chabola" spaces, exploring how to minimize intervention using wooden boards and adhesive tape.

Description from the team. Born in Málaga, Jorge Penadés founded his studio in 2015 after completing a master's degree in experimental design at the Istituto Europeo di Design in Madrid, under the direction of Katharina Mischer & Thomas Traxler. His work has been recognized by various institutions and galleries such as the Vitra Design Museum, the National Museum Design in Stockholm, The Aram Gallery in London, and the Rossana Orlandi gallery in Milan. He recently received the "AD Nuevo Talento Campari" award and held his first solo exhibition at the Machado-Muñoz gallery.

At Concéntrico, he investigates the potential of creating "Chabola" (shack-like) spaces through the interaction of 20 wooden boards without fixed joints, emerging spontaneously as a form of architecture. La Chabola will occupy the courtyard of the Library of La Rioja, presenting an architectural exercise based on an experimental construction system using adhesive tape.

In response to the brief:

Inspired by physiotherapists and how they use kinesiology tape on muscles, the team studied how to translate this technique into an architectural context, resulting in a temporary method for interconnecting the panels. Aiming to find the precise point where two very different worlds overlap, this project proposes a strabismic approach to architecture; the result is a makeshift, shack-like space that cuts across and transcends the discipline, creating an anarchic vocabulary disconnected from any pre-existing references.
