Within the evolution of a society, architecture plays a decisive role as a tool for expressing individual and collective values. These values are materialized through concepts and explorations of space and time. Building upon the theme of BAG 2016, which focused on Spaces and Contexts, there is a need to question the foundations that define and determine the architecture of the present in order to project toward the future.
BAG 2018 seeks to highlight and generate discourse on how architecture addresses, resolves, and expresses the aspirations of a culture at a given time, distinguishing itself from the purely built environment. It also recognizes the need to confront architecture's complex relationship with its social and historical contexts, as well as its audiences, achievements, and aspirations.
Architecture, therefore, is approached as a commitment to the public and private spheres, and as the power to negotiate individual or collective change to build dreams and aspirations, or even to express utopian ideals. BAG 2018 invites students, academics, and professionals from within and outside the national and international architecture community to collectively nurture the dialogue on the current and future state of the profession.
