Registration for the 21st Brazilian Congress of Architects is now open at www.21cba.com.br. Returning to Porto Alegre after 50 years, the event will take place from October 9 to 12 in the city's historic center. It will foster debate on "Space and Democracy," featuring special guests such as architects and urban planners Ermínia Maricato and Paulo Mendes da Rocha.
Organized by IAB/RS and co-organized by CAU/RS, the event serves as a precursor to the 27th World Congress of Architects (UIA2020RIO), which will be held in Rio de Janeiro in 2020. "We are going to debate public spaces by occupying public spaces," says IAB-RS president Rafael Passos, the event's host. The goal is to make the event visible to society, bringing architecture and urbanism to everyone.
To this end, the 21st CBA program includes conferences, major debates, thematic sessions, open sessions, workshops, short courses, paper presentations, lectures, plenary sessions, and an architecture fair held in the Praça da Alfândega, the heart of the city. Debates will be organized around three thematic pillars: Architecture, City, and Environment; Culture and Memory; and Education and Professional Practice.
