CLEM 2019: 4th Latin American Congress on Timber Structures

2019 marks the tenth anniversary of the first edition held in Concepción, Chile. That pioneering congress in Latin America brought together academics, professionals, technicians, and companies from the forestry and timber sector, building a solid foundation of critical mass that, over the years, has led to productive exchanges, shared approaches, and the development of strategies among countries in the region. Subsequent editions in 2017 in Junín (Argentina) and 2018 in San Carlos (Brazil) solidified its status as a synergistic forum.

Globally, timber structures and construction have seen sustained progress in recent years, driven by the development of new products and the availability of design and calculation software, but fundamentally by the growing concern for environmental protection and energy savings in component production. In Latin America, we have excellent examples of sustainable forestry development, ensuring the long-term availability of this natural resource. Timber is the only structural material that “is planted and grows,” and is considered by countries developing timber construction technologies to be “the material of the 21st century.”
