International open ideas competition: Weissenhof 2027 in Stuttgart

In 2027, the Weissenhofsiedlung in Stuttgart will mark its 100th anniversary. The famous housing estate, originally consisting of 21 houses, was built for the 1927 Deutscher Werkbund International Exhibition under the artistic direction of Mies van der Rohe. Le Corbusier’s two houses are part of the UNESCO World Heritage site.

The upcoming centenary serves as the starting point for the 2027 International Building Exhibition (IBA’27), which will take place in Stuttgart and its surrounding region. Following a century of architecture and urban history, the IBA’27 offers an opportunity to reflect on the built legacy of the Modern Movement and to continue the urban development of the Weissenhof estate through a contemporary model.

To this end, the state capital of Stuttgart and the state of Baden-Württemberg, in cooperation with the IBA'27, have announced an open international ideas competition to lay the groundwork for subsequent architectural project competitions to be held at the Weissenhof.
