Building of the Year 2024: The award for the best architecture in Spanish

In 2024, we celebrate the fifteenth edition of our Obra del Año award: the highest recognition in the Spanish-speaking architectural world, where the winners are chosen by popular vote. Starting today, Tuesday, March 12, you and all our readers will be responsible for deciding which projects inspired us in 2023 and now faithfully represent the identity of our local contexts.

Over the next three weeks, the entire ArchDaily en Español network will serve as the platform to celebrate the best built architecture in Spain and Latin America. From a selection of nearly one thousand projects published in 2023, you can easily find your favorites by browsing through the categories and using our search filter to sort projects by country and architecture firm. 

The Obra del Año 2024 Award is brought to you by Dornbracht, renowned for its design leadership in architecture, which can be found globally in bathrooms and kitchens.

1. Which projects are eligible?

• All projects built in Spanish-speaking countries and published for the first time in the Featured Projects section between January 1 and December 31, 2023, are eligible to compete.
• By submitting their projects for publication across the ArchDaily en Español network (archdaily.cl, archdaily.mx, archdaily.co, and archdaily.pe), offices agree to participate in this competition.
• The authorship of each project and its images belongs to the respective office and photographer.

2. Who can nominate and vote?

• All registered users of My ArchDaily are eligible to vote. If you are not registered, you can do so here.
• All registered users can nominate and/or vote once per day. Once the system resets the counter daily at midnight (GMT -3), you may nominate or vote again, depending on the stage.
• To register, you must use a valid email address. Nominations or votes submitted by users registered with an invalid email address will be deducted.
• Offices and architects can promote their projects among their contacts to invite them to vote, as long as there is no compensation of any kind involved. To do this, you can use the following link.

3. What are the key dates and deadlines?

Stage 1: Nominations
From Tuesday, March 12 at 12:00 PM to Tuesday, March 26, 2024, at 11:59 PM (GMT -3).

• Each registered user will be able to nominate their favorite project among all available projects.
• You may vote for the same project—or a different one—each day throughout the nomination period.
• The 15 projects with the highest number of nominations will advance to the second stage, known as the "Finalists Voting."

Announcement of the 15 finalists: Wednesday, March 27, 2024.

Stage 2: Finalist Voting
From Wednesday, March 27 to Wednesday, April 3, 2024, at 11:59 PM (GMT -3)

• Each registered user will be able to vote once per day among the 15 finalist projects.
• You may vote for the same project—or a different one—each day throughout the voting period.

Stage 3: Announcement of the winners
Thursday, April 4, 2024.

• We will award the ODA2024 to the three most-voted projects, based on the total number of valid votes.
• The winning projects will be announced in an article published across all ArchDaily en Español sites on Thursday, April 4, 2024.
• The results will be presented to the Spanish-speaking press and will receive extensive coverage across the ArchDaily en Español sites.
• The winners of each category will receive an award from ArchDaily.
• The 12 finalists and the three winners may use the respective recognition for their own purposes. ArchDaily en Español will provide promotional digital material for this purpose.

4. Please note...

• Registered user information is confidential and will not be shared with third parties.
• After each stage, all nominations/votes will be verified. Votes cast through false and/or invalid registrations will be removed. Any attempts to abuse the system, such as creating fictitious accounts, suspicious behavior from individual IP addresses, or any other technique to generate nominations and/or votes automatically, will be logged and reviewed for removal.
• ArchDaily en Español, ArchDaily México, ArchDaily Colombia, ArchDaily Perú, and ArchDaily reserve the right to analyze the data throughout all stages of the awards in order to ensure a fair process.
