Based in Montreal, Canada, artist Karen Tam focuses her practice on the construction and imagination of diverse cultural and community identities. Since 2000, her installation work has reconstructed Chinese restaurants, karaoke lounges, opium dens, curio shops, and other sites of cultural confluence within galleries and exhibition spaces worldwide. These spatial and material experiences allow audiences to unpack the history and community development of the Chinese diaspora within Western contexts.
