Peris + Toral
Arquitectura en Corto invites you on Tuesday, June 2, at 7:00 PM to Espacio Arquia in Madrid (c/ Tutor, 16) for the screening of the short film Modulus Matrix. The film was commissioned by the Royal Institute of British Architects to mark the awarding of the 2024 RIBA International Prize to the Barcelona-based firm Peris + Toral Arquitectes. The film's directors, Lucija Stojević and Andrés Bartos Amory, demonstrate how the award-winning building—a 85-unit social housing complex in Cornellà de Llobregat—radically improves the lives of its residents through clear, innovative design strategies. As Marta Peris notes: "A home can and does influence people's lives, as it is the place where, from childhood, we construct our way of being in the world." José Toral adds: "We build social housing responsibly, with low emissions and unconventional systems. Having this validated and recognized is very important to us, especially as a way to encourage other developers to follow the same path." Furthermore, this project is one of 14 selected for issue 234 of El Croquis magazine, a monograph on the work of Peris + Toral Arquitectes that will be presented during the post-screening discussion. Architect and writer Eduardo Prieto, who authored the monograph's opening article, will participate, noting that "the projects by Marta Peris and José Toral are vast reservoirs of vocation and labor, of premeditated order; yet, they combine the rigor and lucidity expected of good architecture with the poetic sensitivity and geometric talent found only in the very best."
