The Maia'19 Contemporary Art Biennial takes place from May 11 to July 27, hosted within 16 shipping containers distributed across 7 locations throughout the municipality.
Under the theme "import/export," the 8th edition of the Maia Contemporary Art Biennial is curated by Andreia Garcia, with co-curators Diogo Aguiar and Javier Peña Ibáñez (architecture), Luís Albuquerque Pinho and Luís Pinto Nunes (fine arts), Sara Orsi (new media), and Vera Sacchetti (design). The biennial features more than 40 national and international artists—hailing from Germany, Spain, the United States, Denmark, the Netherlands, France, England, Italy, Macedonia, Switzerland, and Venezuela—showcasing 24 new works and 26 events, including book launches, talks, happenings, performances, tours, and workshops.
