Perspective drawing

In this third book of the Urban Sketching series, Stephanie Bower demonstrates, through numerous helpful tips, how the often-challenging concepts of perspective drawing can be broken down into simple, practical steps. She guides readers to think like architects, drawing buildings and spaces through a synthesis of forms and gradually adding layers to eventually enhance their sketches with details, tones, and colors. A deeper understanding of perspective will transform how you see and draw the world—perspectives will begin to reveal themselves to you everywhere.

About the author: A two-time recipient of the KRob Architectural Delineation award in the Best Travel Sketch category and winner of the 2013 Gabriel Prize for architecture, Stephanie is an architectural illustrator, instructor, watercolorist, and traveling Urban Sketcher based in Seattle. The various facets of her personal and professional life have come together to create Understanding Perspective: Easy Techniques for Mastering Perspective Drawing on Location. Stephanie worked as a licensed architect in New York City before being drawn to professional architectural illustration and conceptual design. In Seattle, she produces pencil and watercolor perspectives for various renowned architecture and design firms. For over 25 years, Stephanie has been teaching the techniques used for architectural sketching—for a decade in New York at Parsons; in Seattle at the University of Washington and Cornish College of the Arts; and more recently in workshops titled “Good Bones.” She served as an instructor at the 2014 and 2015 Urban Sketchers symposia in Brazil and Singapore, and also hosts an annual workshop in Civita di Bagnoregio, Italy. Her online course, “Perspective for Sketchers,” can be found on the Craftsy.com platform. She is a signature member of the Northwest Watercolor Society. People from all over the world follow her drawings online via Flickr, Facebook, her blog Drawing Perspectives, and as a correspondent blogger for Urban Sketchers.
