This Is Not a Game: Public Happenings in Former Churches for Manifesta 16 Ruhr

Join four days of public happenings that bring collective play, performance, and public action into former churches across Gelsenkirchen.

Inspired by the idea that play precedes ritual, THIS IS NOT A GAME returns former churches to one of the oldest forms of collective social activity. Drawing on local street games, childhood memories, industrial heritage, migration histories, and everyday life in the Ruhr region, visitors are invited to take part in a series of collective actions and participatory situations developed for these spaces.
