Harold Bissner: The Progression of an Architect Trail - Free Self Guided Architectural Trail Map

Each month, Friends of Residential Treasures Los Angeles (FORT: LA) curates a new self-guided trail, inviting Angelenos to explore the city’s rich architectural heritage. These immersive experiences highlight significant homes, hidden gems, and the designers who have shaped Los Angeles' built environment.

This month’s trail is entitled Harold Bissner: The Progression of an Architect Trail and is curated by Luke Leuschner. The trail traces the evolution of a self-taught Southern California architect from refined Spanish Colonial Revival homes of the 1920s to Japanese-influenced Modernism in the postwar years. Through five Pasadena sites, the trail reveals a remarkable stylistic adaptability and lasting impact on the region’s residential landscape.
