ET CONTEST Beyond Underground

ET CONTEST is an architectural design competition
inviting ideas, visions, and proposals for the architectural
and landscape transformation of the former mining site of
Sos Enattos, in Sardinia. The site is one of the candidates to
host the Einstein Telescope (ET), a cutting-edge European
scientific infrastructure set to become the world’s most
advanced third-generation gravitational wave detector.

ET CONTEST engages a complex and deeply layered territory
rich in historical and identity-related values and currently
undergoing radical transformation. Proposals are required
to focus on the surface project of the Einstein Telescope,
developing a transformative scenario at a large scale
(masterplan) and providing spatial and design principles
illustrated through drawings and visual narratives.

ET CONTEST is part of a broader constellation of initiatives
aimed at involving students, recent graduates, researchers,
experts, and professionals (under 41 years of age at the
time of submission) in imagining future scenarios for the
transfoormation of this territory.
