As part of the international contemporary art exhibition Segrete. Tracce di Memoria, the interior spaces of Eugenio Fuselli’s architecture host an intervention by Matteo Pulvirenti.
The exhibition, open from 23 January to 27 February 2026 during the museum’s regular opening hours, is supported by Guido Vinacci (President, Fondazione A.N.M.I.G. – Genova) and curated by Matteo Lenuzza (Cultural Director, Fondazione A.N.M.I.G. – Liguria). It continues the dialogue between the Permanent Collection housed in the building and contemporary proposals that connect the historical memory promoted by the institution with the present.
Guilt and a sense of powerlessness in the face of a History that unfolds dramatically and inexorably lie at the core of an installation that seeks to act physically on the viewer’s perception of their own position — as spectator and as individual. Daily news presents an unending season of selfishness and deprivation, capable of calling into question the values and legacy of a past that, while receding over time, returns through images with renewed ferocity. Symbols, models, and lessons seem to vanish abruptly, overwhelmed by a deaf present that casts a growing shadow over a horizon that should be founded on dialogue and encounter. Exactly 80 years after the democratic moment represented by the birth of the Italian Republic, visitors are engaged in a project that is necessarily raw — as a contemporary expression of our times — yet seeks, in contrast, to uphold the irreplaceable human legacy for which Memory is (and must be) more than ever a light against the darkness of today.
"Contro l'ombra. A te che guardi", a solo exhibition by Matteo Pulvirenti, opens the 2026 programme at Casa del Mutilato - Genova. The year will focus on the transmission of the missions that have historically defined the institution since its founding: pacifism, inclusivity, and respect for rights. These principles, intended as daily imperatives, will be explored through the production of exhibitions, displays, and thematic programmes (all free to the public) that do not shy away from deeply human yet often unspoken emotions, such as powerlessness. This sense of unease must not undermine a profound commitment to participation and solidarity — values that today have become an urgent necessity.
