The Pilgrim Route / Mexico - Image 60 of 4

Every year, over 2,000 people go on a 100 km pilgrimage path near Guadalajara, Mexico during Holy Week. Municipalities along the route decided to give the pilgrims some service areas along this route, so the Secreaty of Turism of Jalisco comissioned these projects to a group of both mexican and international architects: Ai Wei Wei (FAKE Design), Luis Aldrete, Christ & Gantenbein, Dellekamp Arquitectos (featured on AD), Elemental (featured on AD), Godoylab, HHF, Periférica and Tatiana Bilbao mxa.

By looking at the projects, you can tell they wanted this to remain simple, as structures that will remain abandoned most of the year and will age becoming part of the landscape.

JDS, in collaboration with Klar, will redesign the harbour front Kalvebod Brygge as the result of a tender held by the City of Copenhagen, within the newly established ‘Metropolzone’

The Metropolzone is a major development project to upgrade a part of Copenhagen City centre, which stretches from Kalvebod Brygge to St. Jørgens Lake.

Interesting sea baths, something that JDS developed in the past as PLOT.

ORDOS 100 #1: Alejandro Aravena Architects - Image 32 of 4

ORDOS 100 is a development in Inner Mongolia that you might have heard of. It consist of one hundred 1000sqm villas designed by 100 hip architects in 100 days, selected by Herzog & de Meuron over a master plan developed and curated by Ai Wei Wei (FAKE Design).

If during modernism, architectural experimentation was practiced through large housing projects, we now find it in curated projects such at this, on countries with a raising -or at least before the crisis- economy.

The project was split into two-phases, of 28 and 72 houses respectively. In ArchDaily we are going to feature the projected villas each week, and hopefully we manage to document all We have contacted several offices already, but if you are part of ORDOS 100 and we haven´t got in touch with you, please use the contact form.

We start with the villa by Alejandro Aravena (Chile). No project description, but you can understand some of the concept design from the sketches.

This villa is located in plot ORDOS project.

Dellis Cay: Starchitects in the Turks & Caicos archipielago - Image 16 of 4

Super star architects arrive to the Caribbean, specifically to Dellis Cay, a 560-acre island at the Turks & Caicos archipielago. The project, set to be completed by 2010, will feature works by Shigeru Ban, David Chipperfield, Carl Ettensperger, Zaha Hadid, Kengo Kuma, Piero Lissoni, and Chad Oppenheim. In addition to the 124 villas and 154 residences, the island will have a 30,000 sq ft Spa operated by the Mandarin Oriental, a five star luxury hotel, a signature restaurant and numerous casual dining experiences.

Below you can see further images of the individual projects, done by d-box. There aren´t too many images available, but you can certainly notice the hand of each architect on this projects, specially the Zaha and Chipperfield ones.

From this project, two houses took my attention. First, a house by Chad Oppenheim, pictured above. I really like the public area of this house, which reminds me of contemporary brazilian houses: A unique concrete volume covering the open public space and an enclosed area for the bedrooms. You can really feel outside while being covered by the structure, which has a big span with no elements that block the views.

UPDATE: See a video on the construction and photos of the project finished on this article.

Every year the PS1 Gallery at the Museum of Modern Art in New York invites young emerging architects to propose a temporary structure for their Warm-up Music festival, and unless you´ve been living under a rock for the last few months, you already know that Work AC won this years edition with their PF1 (Public Farm One) proposal.

PF1 (Public Farm One) is an urban farm concept built with inexpensive and sustainable materials recyclable after its use at P.S.1, such as cardboard tubes that form a continuous surface creating multiple zones of activity including swings, fans, sound effects, innovative seating areas, and a refreshing pool at its center, as an Urban Beach.

We visited Work AC (interview coming this Sunday) and they told us how this project allowed them to get in touch with non architects for the technique for growing plants on the cardboard tube structure, which enriched the development of the project. They also worked with LERA structural engineers.

Installation opens June 20th, hosting the 2008 Warm Up summer music series at the PS1. You can follow the construction progress at the Public Farm 1 website.
