Architecture + Art merging via photography, by Paul Clemence, are a collection of photographs at the exhibit, “BOOM (Design) Contemporaneo” taking place from August 29th to October 10th in Sao Paulo, Brazil and is free to the public.

Zaha Hadid, Paul Clemence, Milano, Design, Massimiliano Fuksas, Frankfurt, Shopping, New York and Art are all converging in this one place via Paul Clemence’s photography at BOOMSPDESIGN 2011. More information on the exhibit after the break.

AA (Architectural Association) Visiting School Paris, currently led by Jorge Ayala, Principal of A Studio, will be held from October 31st to November 10th.

The Visiting School Paris has started to acquire some recognition among emerging units at the AA due to its novel agenda aiming to bridge the spectrum of Architecture to the realm of Fashion.

AA School Paris has been established based on a series of partnerships that have been of a great value and support for the AA School London. Among them we currently have printed magazines, venues and institutions supporting us like : L’Architecture d’Aujourd’hui, La Mairie de Paris, Musées des Arts Décoratis, among others. The design for the Busan Opera House by OODA engages itself with the natural topography, articulating a multi leveled building and seamlessly integrating the different cultural activities and programs. The dominant flow circulation, flexibility and concept strategy enables full accessibility as it creates spaces that blur the difference between building and landscape, intensifying the fluidity between interior and exterior spaces, indoor and outdoor venues. Competition participants, Sasa Djak and Milica Vujovic recently won the community’s vote as best Rapidly-Deployable Shade Structure in the DesignByMany competition. The challenge asked professionals and students in the AEC community to submit proposals for a rapidly-deployable shade structure that could just as easily be deployed during a day at the beach or park, or in a desert environment. Steven Holl Architects recently received an American Architecture Award for 2011 for the Horizontal Skyscraper-Vanke Center in Shenzhen, China.The awards, administered annually by The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design and The European Center for Architecture, Art, Design and Urban Studies honor ‘new and cutting-edge design’ and aim to promote ‘the best of new architecture and urban design.’ More on the project after the break.

Miami University Department of Architecture and Interior Design recently announced their Fall 2011 Architecture and Interior Design Lecture Series, which began on the 24th of August and runs through the 14th of November.

Ajman University of Science and Technology announced that there will be an architectural workshop by the renowned architect Will Alsop to be held at the university itself (AUST), UAE, during the period of September 20-24, 2011.

The Busan Metropolitan Opera House competition provides an opportunity not only to develop a new performing arts hub for south-eastern Korea, but also to re-consider the icon in architecture and its presence in the 21st century city. The contemporary understanding of the opera house is as a monumental object that is detached from the city, and designed to be appreciated through selected vistas. In the opposite of this, ‘Intermezzo’, designed by INDEX Architecture, seeks to adopt a language of continuity with its context. More images architects’ description after the break.

Architecture and Engineering firm, Tomoon, in collaboration with HAEMA, shared with us their winning competition entry for the New Headquarters for GEPS in Geju, South Korea where the city is a gently sloping area located between the old city and new city in Seogwipo and know to be an international trade base and a city of education. Their future-oriented concept is designed by four directions considering sloping ground, wind, scents and views and territoriality. Architecture for Humanity has recently launched a graphic design competition to identify a compelling logo for the 2011 Open Architecture Challenge called Restricted Access. This year’s challenge is focused on re-purposing vacant military structures and sites. It will catalyze awareness, ideas, and most importantly – action.

Carefully studying the circulation of the Cros Old factory buildings and in knowing, that when considered together, the three existent buildings have a great value for its urban and architectural system, volumetric plastic qualities and spatial configuration, Díaz y Díaz Architects sought an integration of architectural space. INFLUX_STUDIO shared with us their proposal for the New Taipei City Museum of Art competition as contemporary art museums are becoming hybrid programs and transforming the way people approach art to become real places to be. The key issue they were dealt with was how to gather people and art while integrating the landscape into the museum and the museum into the park. Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios, in collaboration with Buro Happold are hosting an international conference this autumn and have invited an exciting range of speakers all of whom have great experience transforming old buildings for use in contemporary culture and performance.

Şişli is one of the biggest and busiest districts in Istanbul with a large business district and equally large residential area to support it. So when it was announced that the main Şişli High School design was to be chosen with a national competition, as residents of Şişli, cem kaptan architecture, in collaboration with Mustafa Tural and Yıldırım Gigi, won the mention prize of the competition for taking it upon themselves to create an environment for students that was protected from the outside for maximum concentration, but also had a connection to the heart of the urban way of living. Inspired by the unprecedentedly rapid urbanization process undergoing in China, Beijing-based Chinese architect and artist Li Han of Atelier 11 | China has developed a series of drawings on the subject of urban landscapes. The purpose of the series is to record the phenomena Li found interesting and representative in this urbanization process. With techniques and visual languages borrowed from architectural drawings, Li tries to present the spontaneous interaction between the urban environment and human activities. The drawings are not only objective documentations, but also reflections and scenarios on the future development based on the current facts. More images and architects’ description after the break.

The career of eminent architect and educator Stanley Tigerman is the subject of a retrospective exhibition that opened at the Yale School of Architecture Gallery, in historic Paul Rudolph Hall, on August 22, 2011. Ceci n’est pas une rêverie*: The Architecture of Stanley Tigerman, which remains on view through November 5, 2011. The exhibition celebrates Tigerman’s distinguished career with a diversity of original artworks, models, photographs, and archival documents, among other items. It is curated by Yale School of Architecture Associate Professor Emmanuel Petit. In January 2012, the exhibition will travel to the Graham Foundation’s Madlener House, in Chicago, and then onto the School of Architecture at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. International architecture firm, Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates (KPF) recently presented a selection of Chairman and Founder A. Eugene Kohn’s watercolours in Hong Kong this fall. The artists’ proceeds from the works sold were donated to the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center and Cancer Research at the University of Michigan. The proceeds from a silent auction of several noteworthy pieces during the opening reception on October 3rd will also be donated to the Hong Kong Cancer Fund (HKCF).
